What We Offer

The purpose of this web site is to provide a forum to inform forest landowners of the many benefits of the American Tree Farm System and of managing the natural resources of their property. This forum will also provide for the exchange of information through bulletin boards, event calendars, special offers, email, hyperlinks, and possibly a chat room sometime in the future.

The benefits of being a tree farmer include:

  • Help from the State Tree Farm Committee and the AFF in providing sources and contacts for assisting landowners to implement the best natural resource management techniques.
  • Local information from the State Tree Farm Committee and co-sponsoring organizations (local mailings may be contingent on membership in local co-sponsoring organizations).
  • Arrangements can be made to present your tree farm sign and certificate at a public ceremony with attendant public recognition.
  • To participate in and/or volunteer your time for local and/or national promotions, seminars, and tours; the opportunity to participate in a local, state, regional, and national outstanding tree farmer of the year process, a re-inspection visit by a qualified forester approximately every five years.
  • The ability to exchange experiences, information, and views with other tree farmers; the opportunity to purchase and use tree farm promotional items and to display the tree farm sign and logo as long as the tree farm meets standards.
  • The pride and satisfaction of being actively involved as a steward of the forest ecosystem providing and helping sustain clean air and water, protecting soil, producing forest products, providing wildlife habitat and outdoor recreation opportunities, and enhancing the scenic beauty of New Jersey's, and the nation's landscape.

 Special Standards - Public Lands

  • Lands owned by smaller public entities (cities, towns, schools, universities) can be certified as agreed to in the regular national standards. County, State, and Federal lands generally cannot be certified as Tree Farms. State committees can present the case for exceptions to the ATFS National Operating Committee (NOC). State Tree Farm committees can recognize excellent forestry on special public lands or "heritage" land in the county, state, and federal categories as "Tree Farm Demonstration Areas". These may display the Tree Farm sign but must carry an additional "Tree Farm Demonstration Area" sign. Tree Farm Demonstration Areas will not be listed as certified Tree Farms.
